Tidy St

Tidy St dates from the 1840s and was part of the general development of North Laine , and particularly the area north of Gloucester Rd, after the arrival of the railway in 1841. With the building of the goods yard and the engine and coach works between 1848 and 1852, there was a demand for more housing for the workers migrating to Brighton for work. Nos 7-27, 30-33 and 38-46 have Ionic pilasters and fanlight doorways.
